  1. This is similar to what we experienced in Scotland and later London. Same glass, but regular Fever Tree tonic water (always on the side). Lots of ice, the measured pour and that was it. We were kind of disappointed in most cocktails we ordered in the UK. I am told because...they had no Prohibition?

Originally a web series and now something more (yes, I still have not dug in to Season 2!). This series is nt a time suck and is absolutely brillian, especially if you are a nerd, scifi fanand so on. Enjoy.
  3. Is this place still in existence? Just curious when I am up that way again. Had Grotto pizza (maybe a couple miles down Snowden River Parkway) a year or so ago and it was fine, but nothing special.
  4. After hearing of Curry Leaf being.....temporarily closed for renovations, I discovered through my neighborhood email list that the chef from Curry Leaf left to go to newly opened Amber Spice in the storefronts lining Marlo Furniture's parking lot. WOO-HOO! Chicken korma, and chicken chettinad (new for me) were both delicious as carry out. The space is beatiful and modern and clean lines. We will be back to dine in next looking forward to trying dosas as well as egg curry among other things. Recommended.
  5. We fell in love with mainly Speyside Scottish Wiskys..,We'd already loved Balvenie before ever going to Scotland. But we discovered a love of Glenfarclas, Old Puteney and Dalmore. We also like Highland versions of whiskey. mmmm.
  6. zThere is chatter on y neighborhood email that seems to think two things : 1) Someone seems confirmed by some, not by me - that they are closed for renovations, and 2) that some or all of the chefs from Curry Leaf departed to open up or move to other spaces/ Another person dug this up and noted that the named (on this thread currently) have moved to a place across from the Marlo furniture place called Amber Spice. Note the chef name - the same right? Not sure if it is temporary or permanent.
  7. I avoid bringing back problematic cargo in any form. If it cannot survive in the suitcase, I do not bother. But it means I often overindulge in things where I am traveling as a result. Great example - London 2010 at Borough Market at Neal's Yard. Bought 3 cheeses at a 1/4 kilo each. Was eating it here and there constantly for three days. Finished the last nibbles at the airport before going through security. Ha!
  8. This is all the business side of the game. It sucks when you lose coaches and players and supporting staff you know and like (and can deliver). But no matter what position you are talking about, with the ephemeral nature of how the hockey winds blow - one day you are in, the next you might be out (benched, traded, demoted to minor leagues, bought out, whatever). You have to do what you can to secure your $$$ when you can. Trotz is striking while the iron is hot and I cannot blame him. I will miss him being the Caps coach though, that is for sure.
  9. Apparently you can only buy Isle of Harris gin at the distillery or online order (shippable only to the UK). BOOOOOO!
  10. Borsao garnacha is $9 (probably closer to $8 with discounts on volume) and a solid basic crowd pleaser offering some depth and approachable by pretty much all palates.
  11. Having also tasted some excellent gins in Scotland (by far the best was Thompson Brothers gin, which is unlikely to make it here to the USA, I am expecting). We did manage to find one we like called Sipsmith (a London distillery). But the one eluding me at the moment that I'd hoped to score here in the states was Isle of Harris gin - it is quite good. Any thoughts where I might find a shop with super excellent gin selection?
  12. Having just come back from a nice trip to Scotland, I've decided that I am definitely partial to that of the Speyside variety primarily. I managed to find a favorite that we discovered on the trip - Glenfarclas, but could only find the 12 year old bottling (and the '105' but was not ready to take that plunge). Anyone know if and where I might be able to locally procure (as I assume it is illegal to ship spirits to MD/VA?) some 15, 18 or 25 year Glenfarclas if and when I feel ok pulling the trigger on something so expensive?
  13. Yeah, people can ask me to donate, but that is a very personal, very individual thing in my perspective. I donate when I want to, how I want to and in what manner I want to, and I do it directly to the charities - not through some middleman facilitation thing.
  14. So they basically paid the initial set up rent and then....stopped. 2+ years of no rent? At all? That is pathetic. That said, the commercial leaseholder is also basically stupid for not far earlier enforcing the collection of the contractually obligated (I assume) rent.
  15. My wife and I had a drive-by experience of sorts with AB. We were at Jacques Torres in NYC and in walks AB with a producer and some camera guys and they just set up and sstart talking and filming. It was so random. We enjoyed our snack and drinks and watched for awhile before leaving. He and I are both tall guys. We caught a glance of each other was we were walking out and I got the 'tall person nod' above the rest of the folks milling about.
