Independent Coffee Houses: The New Map

It's the part of Swampoodle where we can hear the bells of St. Mary-le-Bow, love jellied eels, pie, mash and liquor me old China. -
Independent Coffee Houses: The New Map
Kev29 replied to porcupine's topic in Coffee Shops and Roasters
Dear indy coffee shop owners and roasters who read this fine thread, I beg of you to consider filling in the coffee desert you see in the graphic below. Cool full service shop, small counter operation, cart, rickshaw, grinder monkey on the street who grinds beans with an organ like device, what have you. Please help. Thank you for your consideration - Under caffeinated Lower Swampoodle Worker Drone. -

Far more interested in their beer list (which looks pretty good via Yelp) and bar than their pies. And it's about a hundred yards from my parents place, so I'll check it out and report back.

IMP were running the concessions on the field and I had no problem getting food, beer or water all day. I did bring a lot of cash because I know all about RFK!

IIRC, the Nats actually started their policy of allowing food in to games at RFK (with permission from DC Events) because the facilities there couldn't possibly feed a baseball audience in the present day. Then that policy carried over to Nats Park when it opened.

All John Oliver kidding aside, honestly I don't think Hill expense-account dining is what it used to be (like when Johnny's moved from Dupont and Charlie Palmer opened his steakhouse). Johnny's people claimed that private dining was about a third of their business - significant but didn't make up for the total lack of weekend diners. If I wanted to put together a sloppy narrative around this I guess you could say it's nice that we've becomes more of a social, neighborhood dining town and less expense account focused. As for where Hill events will go -- more to Bistro Bis/Hotel George, Lounge 201, etc.

a. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Good_Burger b. went last week for drinks with colleagues. Cocktails were very good (I got a Manhattan), barkeep unwelcoming and surly. Nice but really nothing special, kind of a cold space in a cold part of town. Burger that a companion ordered looked delicious.

Great post, Lydia. Definitely Port City Porter weather today. Anyone know what the Heineken Bar by mezzanine section 205 has turned in to? (edit: answer to my own question below...) Heineken Star Bar is now the Shock Top Bar (via CBS Local)

Correct. The always informative JDLand has it covered -- in the comments http://www.jdland.com/dc/index.cfm/4360/Whats-New-at-Nats-Park-for-2016#comment13343

Should have added Khlav Kalash, crab juice and Mountain Dew to the list of potential menu items.

I think the only thing not specifically covered in Allen's summary of changes is what's going to happen to the beer offerings inside the Red Porch (now Budweiser Brewhouse). Red Porch has/had about a dozen independent craft offerings (Flying Dog, Heavy Seas, Dogfish, many others) -- I'd be amazed if those stay inside a "Budwesier Brewhouse" -- some Goose Island taps at best.

This could go here, in the P&P Coffeehouse thread and Independent Coffee Shops... but Little Red Fox will be collaborating with Politics & Prose on the running of the book store's new coffeehouse: P&P Newsletter

This is a definite worry. If InBev is specifically in control of the Red Porch, I think the variety on the taps (and the Friday firkins) is under threat.

Well, before this season they had a big deal with Miller/Coors and that did not stop the District Draft stands from starting and then expanding. They'd be crazy to quash something so popular with fans. Of course the Nats are crazy so I guess we'll see.

Wow, 9 places that are of the pub/bar/ale house variety. Which leads me to think that National Harbor's bread and butter is getting convention goers shitcanned.
