  1. Anyone know if this includes their Sidebar as well? Assuming so. Edit: Yes. Post's Becky Krystal elaborates more on the closing.
  2. Could be a good spot to take my mother-in-law, she tires of all the interesting "ethnic" food we make her eat in Wheaton, Silver Spring and Rockville
  3. Prince of PooPville already issued a correction. Update: Dan's Cafe Still Open in Adams Morgan
  4. Absolutely agree with this. In fact I think it's one of the warmest, most casual spaces to spend time in around town. Just wish I lived closer.
  5. If I remember correctly, the website for Againn's parent "restaurant group" had all these different (non-existent) concepts and restaurant names laid out to sell to people/places/investors -- even when they just had one place up and running. Clearly the doing of a bunch of business focused guys who wanted to run -- a Matchbox Food Group -- before they could walk.
  6. I really don't believe in cursed storefronts... but this is pretty close. Definitely a crappy location, made worse by changed traffic patterns with the Montrose Rd/Pkwy overpass. It's an easy place to miss and can be frustrating to drive to. But remember, Matchbox's location up the road used to be 'cursed'. Also, the prestige chains within Pike & Rose down the street seem to be killing it (anecdotal evidence: we had trouble finding a spot in 3 different restaurants there a few weeks ago).
  7. I miss the original Ambrosia in Rockville. Kind of an odd, scruffy place -- but good pancakes. And gyro omelets.
  8. Yep. And that's just the nature of Washington DC. We weren't established as a commercial port or industrial town -- and thus did not have huge waves of post-industrialization Greek, Italian or Irish immigration. This is why we also don't have a ton of long-held Greek diners, checkered tablecloth Italian... or green Nationals caps That said, I'm still able to get my cheap diner fix at Tastee in Silver Spring and Bethesda. Plus some Greek-American and Italian-American cuisine when I'm in the mood for it. There's more in the suburbs. Reason someone can't plop an affordable Jersey style Greek-American diner in the District these days? $$$
  9. Pierre Garcon Nice Sports Bog piece on the endeavor (this is where Don will move this to the Spinfire thread)
  10. DC Brau for $9 and Yuengling (!!!) for $7. That's an affront to god. I like (his public persona, local backstory, food philosophy) Dave Chang a lot, but I won't be going there looking to drink. More likely to visit at 11pm after the crowds die down and I've already had quite a few.
  11. Was great to stop in with the family last night after taking too long between visits. Especially enjoyed starting with the Arugula Prosciutto Salad with a bright vinaigrette. Little ones nicely made kids Cheese Pizza was enjoyed by both girls. Got two family standards, Encore (crumbled sausage, red onion) and Soprasetta (red sauce pie, fresh mozz, eponymous) - perfectly cooked with that right balance of firmness, elasticity, char. Couple bottles of table Sangiovese went well with the meal and you can't beat $20 a bottle. Then a couple scoops of ice cream. For me, this has to be one of the three best places to eat in Montgomery County, wonderful spot. And full at 6:30 on a Sunday.
  12. I think delays have cooled the buzz a bit, but it'll ramp back up as soon as there's some hard news on an opening. Been no shortage of publicity for the opening, especially Tim Carman's multi-part series in the Post.
  13. I took my (then) 18 month(ish) daughter awhile back and the server was phenomenal. I would say it's generally kid friendly but that may depend on who's working. I see in the Jackie's thread that there have been some recent reports of poor service - definitely something we've experienced. Though other times it's been great. {Don will probably move this post }
