  1. If you're not doing this at your place of business then team building exercises are most likely needed to promote cohesion
  2. Yikes, that sucks. I saw them closed the other night and assumed it was from the power outage. Hope it is not permanent, that would be a damn shame for that neighborhood....
  3. I've been and it is no better than Domaso was before it closed down. A professional wrote the menu and did a good job. A professional is cooking the food as well, but is not doing nearly as good a job.
  4. Fantastic post and I couldn't agree more with you (about the food, not the play, which I have not seen). BB's menu doesn't sound particularly appealing, which is not always a bad thing as a talented chef can sometimes turn something ordinary into something extraordinary. Unfortunately, that is not happening here in my experience, although the place does have a nice vibe and will be important as this stretch of Florida continues to gentrify.
  5. For me, this conversation begins and ends with Proof, but a few others that haven't been mentioned are CityZen, Adour, and Plume, which along with Marcel's have perhaps the most elegant service in the city. I'm also particularly fond of Tosca, The Source, and Fiola.
  6. More than 6 months since the last post in this thread? I guess I shouldn't be surprised, as this place wasn't even half full last Friday night at 7:30, but if you haven't been here lately you don't know what you're missing. The special that night, which had Olive Oil, Rapini, Burrata, Prosciutto, and Peaches (!) was something I would never ever order but given past experience with this place and a little urging from Anthony, I pulled the trigger. My God. A lesser pizzaiolo would have screwed this up, as the moisture from those ingredients would have made this a soggy mess, but it was crispy and delicious. I feel like this is one of those places where you can't go wrong no matter what you do, but you're always best off just ordering the special. Chances are Anthony knows best. Best to go now to enjoy this pizza, as they will be closing for renovations in early July and who knows who will be by the oven making pizzas when they re-open their doors at the end of the summer....
  7. I'm a little surprised there isn't a thread on this place yet as we have a few members who live in the neighborhood. Pretty much everyone I have talked to about this place really likes it, but unfortunately I am not seeing eye to eye with them. The first time I went I picked up the Create Your Own Calzone with tomato sauce, ham, mushrooms, and fresh mozzarellla. I don't know if it's the conveyor-belt-style oven or the overuse of pizza flour but the texture and surface of this was all wrong for me. It was cooked but had very little crunch outside of the very end of each side. The abundance of pizza flour also gave it kind of a "sandy" crunch with each bit that was not at all to my taste. Nothing so bad that I wouldn't eat it again but definitely not worth the calories for me. I talked to a couple neighbors about this and they were surprised and told me to give the regular pizza a chance a week back. I ordered a small Eckington with added prosiciutto (the more pork the better when it comes to average pizza IMO). What I got was a $15, somewhat small pizza that had the same issues noted above. Again, I don't know enough about pizzamaking to specifically identify how they could fix these problems, but at this price point they have to. It's not good enough to be $13 for a pretty small pizza with what I feel are middle of the road ingredients. http://www.baciopizzeria.com/
  8. Aroi Thai Sushi Bar Coming To Bloomingdale by Prince of Petworth. They lost me at "Thai Sushi". I am hopeful, however, we need another good place to eat around here other than Boundary Stone.
  9. This place is going to be a shitshow every Friday and Saturday night for the foreseeable future. Looking forward to it.
  10. I don't know what it is, but the service is extremely spotty here. The cooking is also what I would describe as uneven. We had very good service for the first time on Sunday night, but other than the raw oysters (both from Virginia were incredible) I left disappointed with the food. The CEBLT was revelatory the first time I had it here last year. On Sunday, it was so poorly executed that I don't see myself ordering it again. My wife's bass was clean and well plated, but somehow overcooked, which was such a shame because it was a nice (if a bit small) piece of fish. Everything was oversalted, which I don't think I've said more than 5 times in my life when describing food as I love the stuff. My fries were inedible after a while, though, it was just overwhelming Part of me has to believe that since they are pretty much packed from open to close no matter what night, it is very challenging for them to be clicking on all cylinders, especially in the middle of the dinner rush. I always have a good time here, I like the bar upstairs, it's always a good looking crowd, and the food when it's on is nice. I think you just have to temper expectations a bit and realize that you are probably not going to have the experience that you had in the first few months it was open.
  11. I wound up giving it a try and maybe my expectations were too high. I loved the Bison Tartare, which was expensive as all get out for a smaller-than-a-hockey-puck little round of meat topped with a duck egg yolk, but goddamn it was good. Call me crazy but I think I prefer a leaner cut of meat in my tartare with an egg yolk to give it some fat. Everything else was not up to the Michael Hartzer from a few years ago standards, unfortunately. The Jerk Cuban was a really unfortunate mixture of flavors, the very dry sandwich did not have enough pork in it to give it much flavor so all I got was pickle with melted cheese. Now combine that with a very spicy jerk sauce given on the side and imagine what that would taste like. Yes, it was that bad. I think the sandwich on its own with more pork on the inside might be fine but definitely not with this sauce. My wife got the Soft Shell Crab special which was fine but a bit underwhelming. Maybe it was just me, I do not tend to get the fascination with soft shells but I can tell a good one from a bad one and these were somewhere in the middle. The thing that got me were the prices on the food. I looked across the regular menu and the numbers I saw for the most part ($26, $28, $24 on the entrees and $10, $12, $16 on the apps) are what I would expect out of a Proof, Corduroy, Central, or other such establishment. Not a saloon and not with the cooking I experienced the other night. All that said, I will be back as this is place is heaven for a whiskey enthusiast. The cocktails and drinks are a bit pricey as well, but they should be, as they are rare and fantastic.
  12. Care to elaborate, Don? I walked by here and was tempted the other day but didn't want to waste my calories needlessly. We have a ton of BBQ snobs on here as well, would love to hear their thoughts on the food.
  13. So it sounds like this place is still one where you come for some really good drinks either before or after eating somewhere else. That right?
  14. I went to the original Uno's in Chicago as a teenager and still remember it as one of the 5 best pizzas I've ever had. it's really a shame what that Boston group has done to that name, I went to the one in Georgetown a couple years ago and can't imagine enjoying a pizza less.
  15. No chance, Don, I've been nailed for this several times, appealed, and received a letter informing me that it is unlawful to park in the same space for more than the maximum allowable time.
  16. Agreed with the sentiment above about this being the best restaurant in Clarendon and that the dining room is like a sauna. A very cold DC Brau and an order of the Corned Ox Heart Reubens helped distract me, delicious little sandwiches not much bigger than a silver dollar but a great snack and take on this traditional sandwich. I loved the depth of the heart meat, it wasn't so gamey that it took over the whole sandwich but you could tell you weren't eating regular corned beef. Very nice way to start the meal. The Fried Chicken special on Mondays is a different kind of prep, with dark meat wrapped around white meat, all on the bone and fried. Mac and cheese was fantastic, which is rare for a simple dish that gets screwed up often. The habanero sauce that they serve on the side is ridiculously hot, so much so that my heat loving wife forced me to trade for her cheeseburger. She was sweating by the end of the meal, which is quite the accomplishment. That sauce is not for the faint of heart by any stretch. The Cheeseburger was really good, nice meaty flavor and a loose pack for that much needed moisture. The only complaint was the bun, which did not hold up to the juices and while I know it was toasted, it tasted stale because of how thin it was. A simple adjustment will easily fix that. The Pie of the Day, Key Lime, was as good as I remember RTS' being back in the day. Nice sugar-graham cracker crust and that lime flavor that often gets drowned out by creaminess in inferior versions of this dessert. It was expensive for a 4 inch diameter pie ($12!) but so damn good. Great beers by the bottle and draft, a passable wine by the glass list that was fairly priced, and good service for a place that just recently opened. Our server was actually surprised that we knew about the place, he said that the only people he had served had been locals thus far due to the lack of signage and internet buzz. He should be prepared, this place will be hopping on a nightly basis very soon.
  17. Anyone have any good recent recommendations for a nice hotel in Portland? Price is not an option. Thanks.
  18. Yeah, I was going to say, I hope they're a whole lot better than Jaleo is right now. I haven't had a good meal there since 2004. A better question would be whether it's in the same league as Estadio..... This menu looks very promising, definitely worth a look.
