  1. [dying to say I told you so] This place, I have to say, was crap when I went there so I was stunned when Sietsema's review ran. The menu is all over the place and the food was not good. Oh, and need I remind you of the waitress and the viognier incident (see above).
  2. I did my part to support the local economy today having lunch at Mother's (Ferdi's poboy hold the cabbage - yum) and late afternoon beignets at Cafe du Monde. I was concerned because I didn't see anyone making the beignets fresh, however they were great and the three of us were covered in powdered sugar after just a few bites. I was in town for a client's PSA shoot, part of the Experience Louisiana campaign. Cafe du Monde plays a part in the commercial actually so stay tuned (I'll post a link when available).
  3. Wow. This is amazing progress, Bill. Are you willing to post "before" and "during" photos at some point?
  4. Seemingly overnight, there's a new Starbucks in Georgetown. This one is west of the Wisconsin/M intersection where a travel agency used to be.
  5. Thank you! I will print this out when I go. I'll do anything to avoid Applebee's and similar abominations, but it's tough with my clientele.
  6. Is there anything good to eat in Conshohocken? I'm staying in downtown Philly next Tuesday night, but my Cheesecake Factory lovin' client lives out by KOP mall. I'd love to go armed with a simple-but-good suggestion. Italian, maybe Mexican or just a place with lots of meat. --- [The following posts have been split into separate threads: Blackfish (winger1930i)]
  7. I'm looking for a restaurant in downtown Dallas for a solo lunch tomorrow (Thursday). I'll be staying at the Fairmont (Akard Street). Not necessarily seeking haute cuisine, just looking to avoid room service.
  8. You're depressing me. Thai is probably my least favorite food (I know I'm in the minority) and thus far, I still don't eat sushi. Probably good for my budget that I'll be cooking more!
  9. In about a month, Jenny Uptown will become Jenny Downtown. I just bought a place near the Convention Center so I need to know: who delivers in that part of town? I'm familiar with the dine-in and take-out options, so I'm just hoping to hear some good news re: delivery on lazy nights.
  10. Tuesday night. Two friends and I were supposed to gather for wine and cheese at Veritas, but it was packed. We ended up at Sette--not a favorite of any member of our group of three, but an OK option. Our two pizzas (one margherita, one with prosciutto, artichokes and mushrooms) and one pasta (cavatelli with sausage and broccoli rabe) were reasonably good. My pasta was cooked a hair too long and generously salted, but it was fine. The service was well-intentioned and eager, but scatterbrained. At times, too rushed (especially when we said we needed more time to peruse the menu--he hovered), and then too slow (a cheese plate arrived before drinks; the server disappeared at check time). Oddly, only two red wines by the glass were offered when we were there-at $9.50 and $15 per glass respectively. My friends opted for beer and I had a glass of prosecco ($11).
  11. Bummer, CK is a favorite, but I'll either be in Philly or New Orleans for work.
  12. In my teenage years, I used to make pineapple upside down cake from a box (Duncan Hines, if you're curious) and call it cooking. Compared to my family members, it was the closest thing to cooking for miles. Would you believe that at least five family members request the same damn cake even though I am now somewhat more capable in the kitchen??
  13. The members of my family are NOT good cooks, but I'm not quite ready to step up to the plate for the holiday meal. Heading home to PA brings out the lazy in me. My aunt's green bean casserole (yes, with canned cream of mushroom soup) or the gravy from the jar. Those don't rate too well with me. I also want to chuck my health nut cousin's I Can't Believe It's Not Butter spray out the window every time I see it on the table. The upside: I lose weight pretty much every time I visit my family.
  14. Hello from New Orleans. My boss wants to have dinner in the Quarter. Any suggestions so I don't get dragged to a tourist trap. Does not have to be haute cuisine, just tasty.
  15. Late brunch Saturday was divine. I tend to order the same thing most brunch visits here: scrambed eggs (easy), sausage, grits. It all just tastes so right. This time it was also fun to check out Chef's new book.
  16. I can't believe no one commented on last week's truly disgusting restaurant rehab.
  17. I made my first trip to Joe's Friday for a casual business lunch. I liked it, but felt a little cheated on the spice level. To start, I had fried pork dumplings, something I miss tons from my NYC-dwelling days. These weren't spectacular, but they did the trick. My orange beef, marked with a chili pepper, was fine, but bland. I need to be persuasive about the fact that I want spice next time.
  18. I made my second visit to Veritas tonight. Again, I really like it other than the noise. I know Adam has made efforts, but even tonight at perhaps 75% capacity, it was darn loud. For the record, I'm 34, not hard of hearing, not what I'd consider old and music was NOT playing at the point where I thought it was loudest. The cheese selections were really excellent (especially the triple cream cheese our bartender called out--like butter, literally), as were the service, the wines and Champagnes I drank so I do plan to return.
