  1. I started going to I Ricchi about 10 years ago, when I started seeing their Groupons. At the time, it was a pretty good deal...a good price for a decent meal. But that was about it...decent. I never would have paid the menu prices for the food we got. But a few years back, (this is going to be vague) I remember seeing signs out front advertising a new chef, or maybe just a new menu concept. Whatever they did worked, and the food got significantly better. Luckily, they've kept the Groupons coming steadily, and it's gone from being a good price for a decent meal to a great price for a very good meal. Still wouldn't pay full price, but at least it's close. In fact, right now it looks like you can get a 3 course dinner for 2 with a glass of house wine for $91, (there were a few upcharges, but not many last I went) or a 2 course lunch for 2 for $38. https://www.groupon.com/deals/ristorante-i-ricchi-2 Totally worth it at those prices.
  2. Lunch service in Dupont seems to be going smoothly. About 26 seats or so...it was about 2/3rds full when I went in around 1:00 today. Can't add a lot to the discussion, since I didn't have any of the lunch-specific items, but the kimchi/pork dumplings are delicious, and the cumin lamb is as good as advertised...one of the best dishes I've eaten in a while. The lunch bowls looked nice, as did the bulgogi sub...I'll have to go back and try more soon.
  3. What's palak chaat supposed to look like? It's always looked like that when I've gotten it, and it's always been delicious. As for the beer, yeah that would have pissed me off too, and quite possibly would have giving me a grudge against the restaurant for a long time.
  4. You think a meal that "wasn't one that will have any of us rushing back" will expose Rasika for the "fraud it has always been"...that seems a leap of logic that I can't quite connect. But to each his own.
  5. Closing, and being replaced by a new branch of Silver Spring's Cubano's. https://bethesdamagazine.com/bethesda-beat/dine/louisiana-kitchen-closing-in-bethesda/ Sad to see them close, but Cubano's is a nice replacement.
  6. Need a place to take out a few NY style pizzas to Springfield, preferably between 95 and Burke. Any ideas? Yelp is sending me to Malek's right near the mixing bowl if anyone's tried that.
  7. Apples and oranges. If you're ordering omakase, or any kind of tasting menu where you're accepting that you don't know what you're getting, or you won't be deciding what you'll be eating, that's one thing. If you're ordering off a menu with multiple options, it's a different game.
  8. It's a shame that Spero writes his menus in a way where you really can't tell what you'll be getting...
  9. The Palak Chaat if you've never had it. Beyond that, order things you wouldn't find in your average Indian place. All the usual dishes are fine, but you'll leave wondering what the fuss is all about. Their seafood tends to be excellent, and I always really like their spicy lamb curries.
  10. That's strange....the truffled popcorn has been included in the tasting menus for as long as I can remember. Wonder if charging for it is a new thing, or if someone screwed up. Bad either way.
  11. The Brick with bacon is still my favorite breakfast sandwich of all time, and I also love the buckwheat pancakes and the crab cakes. I find it neither overpriced nor overrated.
  12. I loved the Inn back when it had a big prix fixe menu for around $120, and I still really liked it when the $160 tasting menu was the only option. I don't know how I'd feel about it now that it's up to $238.
  13. Mon Ami Gabi's French Onion soup is excellent.
  14. My thoughts exactly. Really hope they have good fish and chips...not easy to find around here.
  15. From Eater: “It’s a very good possibility we would probably be opening another Acadiana somewhere in this general area. They are actively looking,” says Flores, in a phone call Thursday.
  16. https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/food/wp/2018/11/12/after-37-years-beloved-lunch-counter-c-f-folks-closes-in-landlord-dispute/?utm_term=.517258138aa4 Closing...may open in new location. Best lunch spot in the city...hope it manages to re-open again soon.
  17. And Del Mar is #1. Obviously more of a "places I'm really liking right now" as opposed to a real ten best list. And I've been to a grand total of zero of the ten. Impressive.
  18. They are a bit pricey, but I'm a pretty big eater, and I find that the half sandwiches (which tend to be around $10) are more than enough for lunch.
